After a long hiatus due to moving house it's nice to be out under the skies again (skies that are darker and less obstructed than the previous house :)).

This was 5.1 hours of LRGB with the Sidereal Newtonian.

As a broadband target (being bright and commonly imaged) this is not the most difficult or the most obscure, but was still satisfying to image especially after a long break. I tried to keep as much faint dust and reflection nebulosity as I could, but probably at the expense of image contrast. Suggestions for better processing are certainly welcome (bigger image on Astrobin). (https://www.astrobin.com/full/413173/0/)

Excellent image of the Trifid Kevin, well balaced brightness and colour. Back with a bang, I'd say

Quite lovely.

Reflection nebulosity captured very nicely. That gets lost in narrowband.

Very nice image Kevin, the high resolution is well worth exploring

Thank you all for the comments.

What I enjoyed the most was there are no annoying neighbours at my new house who leave their outside lights on all night and therefore no ugly gradients. I didn't need to do any background extraction. Processing was little more than photometric colour calibration and noise reduction on rgb, gentle convolution on lum, then a lrgb combination with a bit of fiddling with curves.

I like the Trifid in rgb but I'm looking forward to seeing what comes of the two pending deep narrowband versions of the Trifid that will emerge soon in this forum... :D

It is fantastic that at your now house you have more conducive conditions to astro Kevin. I also prefer the RGB versions of the Trifid, so hopefully once the skies will clear up, the narrowband versions will show Trifid in a different light without making it look ugly :prey:

Seems everyone is doing the Trifid at the moment. I can see more wrinkles in the reflection nebulosity in mine but the colour in yours is much nicer.
