Because my scopes are set up permanently outside l haven't had a need for primary mirror cooling fans but l had an idea #some of you may have already thought about it#, the small cooling fans that they use for computers look pretty compact, about 75mm sq in their mounting box, seen them at the local computer market for $8.00 each and thought 2 of these would work a treat, hop it's an idea someone can make use off.

Common computer fan sizes are 40, 50, 80 and 120 mm wide across the sides of the square.

My GS 12" Deluxe dob has a factory fitted 80mm 'computer fan'.
The exact same one as in my pooter!

Mick

Is this what your talking about? These were already installed when I got my scope. I haven't had a need to use them (apart from hooking them up to a battery to see if they work). They are configured to blow across the mirror face. At the moment thier wires just protrude out of the bow. I am planning a more permenant arrangement with switches soon, as this might get me to lug the big whoer outside at short notice if the cool down time is significantly reduced. Might get around to testing out some theories :)

Andrew, I think it was posted somewhere that the better way to cool, is to suck the air out of the t'scope/box. That way, the fans are not depositing any dust they collect, straight onto the mirror. Just a thought. :D L.

actually the best way to mount a fan or fan(s) is from the back of the mirror. heres lots more on this issue-----> http://www.cloudynights.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/1,2,3,4,5,8,9,10/Number/360923/page/1/view/collapsed/sb/5/o/all/fpart/3/vc/1
