Death of Opportunity - shortlisted APY2019

:jump2: Alright I'm pretty happy - my compilation image from last year's Mars season has been shortlisted for the Insight Investment Astronomy Photographer of the Year 2019 (https://www.rmg.co.uk/whats-on/astronomy-photographer-year/galleries/2019/shortlist)!

It was a collection of images covering the dust storm and the opposition season, and farewell to the intrepid Oppy rover. Though not all the images are my sharpest (seeing was horrible from late June to mid-August), the story ended up nicely. The shortlist was released yesterday. Note my image isn't in the brief gallery available at the site just now. But I'm looking forward to September's judging!

Andy,
Fine display of the transitioning phases of Mars, this set despite the less than perfect weather conditions on Mars, has proven to be a success. You deserve the accolade I wish you all the luck in the judging. Either way a great achievement.

I like that composition. I can see why they shortlisted the image. Well done. Typically in years gone by images that are in the gallery are not winners, occasionally though this is the case. Having won a few awards there I remember this being the case.

Well deserved Andy . I can concurr the seeing was and still is to an extent horrible for most of that period in Sydney Central areas...jetstream etc.

to be honest, well deserved to be chosen. great job!

this image really summarises so many things and challenges that were involved in imaging Mars in 2018, and the effects the dust storm had on the rovers there.

the detail here is astounding and a true testament to your skills as a planetary imager and how good your handle on your optics are. :thumbsup:

may i ask what scope and camera?
