A Lobster's Tale...

Continuing the Seafood Buffet of Nebulous Crustacea on IIS, here we have detail of NGC 6357 (https://www.astrobin.com/full/410015/0/) from Suburbia, very challenging to process too!

A precision balancing act between rendering nebulous gas & the fine details... :screwy:

We have some truly bizarre shaped DSO's in the southern Hemisphere. :lol:

Cataloged as NGC 6357, the Lobster Nebula houses the open star cluster Pismis 24 near its centre, a home to unusually bright and massive stars.
The overall blue glow near the inner star forming region results from the emission of ionised hydrogen gas.

The surrounding nebula, holds a complex tapestry of gas, dark dust, stars still forming, and newly born stars. The intricate patterns are caused by complex interactions between interstellar winds, radiation pressures, magnetic fields, and gravity. NGC 6357 spans about 400 light years and lies about 8,000 light years away toward the constellation of the Scorpion. (apod)

Kinda looks like Deep Space 9 too! :D

Ah the good'ol Lobster....:thumbsup:

It's a fabulous area the inner area of NGC6357, like a maelstrom :windy:. and you have reflected this nicely. I like your colour palette too, showing some variation in colours to reflect that three filters were used not just two :thumbsup: Main negative is, that when viewed at fit-to-screen it looks o-k... but any larger and there are a lot of processing artefacts visible :shrug:

Overall though, a cool bit of neb :thumbsup:

Cheers Mike - This must be version #249 I think! I even dug one of your's out of your website for comparison when processing the Ha LUM; as I was pleased with my colour palette but as you have seen, when pushing colours that hard, well - something's gotta give!:question:

Seems quite a challenge to get sharpness & detailed nebulosity vs. soft & gaseous - amazed that there was sooooo much going on here in the vortex though :)

Nice work Andy, love the colours and contrast. As Mike says though, full view shows up some artefacts; I'd personally dial it back because of that.

Cheers Lee- maybe, but I’ll have to research some new less destructive techniques first. I like my images bold, and yes, ideally artifact free.
Might check out Adam Block’s PS tutorial set, it’s about $100 US. 😊

Amazing image Andy. The Lobster usually is about THE most boring object out there but you have brought it to life. At the displayed image size the sharpness is superb. High res though is showing some sharpening artifacts. Oh well, no free lunches and all that. Perhaps multi scale deconvolution may've worked here.

Hi Greg, Thanks for that - didn't thing the lobster was that boring! Monochromatic yes, but it has so many interesting skeletal pockets & swirls :)

What's multi scale deconvolution? sounds like something Data would use on the Enterprise! :rofl:

Agree with Greg, you've made a somewhat boring object look really good. Highres is a little chonky but hey, the size you've presented it at is just sublime both in term of depth and colours. Very very cool :thumbsup:
