I'm currently trailing different methods of combining Ha into my DSLR data. Some of it has been taken with the same telescope but others haven't, this particular one has.

Adding Ha to the red channel is super easy... Adding it as a luminance layer is where I've been struggling at times due to how absolutely tiny the Ha stars are compared to the DSLR stars. I feel like I'm slowly getting better, haven't quite got there yet but I'm getting better :)

Some great details in the nebulosity and yes star blend is very close indeed Col...buuut if I zoom right in and then do a roll over comparison with HST.....:confuse3:

The blending sounds very difficult.

We'd love to see the H-alpha just on its own. First of the season and all.

I still want to say “I’ve missed it by that much” with the stars but it’ll do for now :)
My FOV leaves HST in the dust :lol:

Blending 3 pixel Ha as a luminance into 10 pixel RGB DSLR data on its own looks pretty ugly :/

For Mike, this is the raw unedited Ha.
It's 6x900s so nothing special.

In the final version I was naughty and drizzle integrated the data (not enough for a proper drizzle) but that allowed me to deconvolve a lot harder.

Looks great Colin :thumbsup: - after seeing your image I now want to collect fresh data of this fascinating target and see if I manage to improve on my attempt from a few years ago.

Blending Ha into luminance is really the work of the Devil.
You can get away with a small amount but usually too much and you ruin the colour and the Devil laughs as he presents ugly salmon colours.

Yours is fine though so you must resisted temptation and showed restraint!

Your data was a lot better than mine Suavi, that usually happens when you collect 10x the integration time :lol:



I have done quite a bit of playing around, so far I’ve settled on combining the Ha into the red channel as the first step AFTER stretching and then adding in the Ha as a luminance towards the end.

I’m still trying to find a way that doesn’t destroy the stars so much though.
