Folks,

The seeing was shocking here in Brisbane tonight, so I had to dial the focal length way back - hence the small image :sadeyes:

Still, it was interesting to see just how far the trail of blood and destruction now stretches from the GRS, which was just entering the face from stage left.

If only we could have some nice seeing back...

Thanks for posting an image, nice description as a trail of blood. Certainly seems to be some carnage going on to the poor old spot. The seeing down here is terrible for now with the winter westerly winds set in. Hopefully we will get another large high pressure system to park itself over us next week.

Not the first time - the GRS ws drained of blood for much of the noughties.

When I first saw it in the 70's the GRS was a dark brick orange, but the belts were much paler than they are now. The Voyager photos show similar.

Makes me think the GRS is caused by a surface feature much deeper down that causes an atmospheric whirlpool dragging the darker stuff up from below.
