Created a 40 panel mosaic as a test run in large and small scale gradient removal and for getting correct astrometric correction out of heavily distorted fields. Really happy with the results given my 5 year old laptop. Definitely needing a desktop now

12.75 hours taken with my D810 and 130mm refractor.

This is at ~ bin 14x14 from full displayable resolution.

That's pretty awesome. 40 panels, gadzooks! And a free set of steak knives?

Thanks David. There is just something that can be captured with a mosaic that doesn’t come through with a single 16mp camera :)

You forgot the free 4 Colour Pen, that was used for all of the stars ;)

40 panel mosaic? Much too complex for me. Four panels is about my limit.

Great effort Colin!

:eyepop:

Nice job Col a wonderful wide field

How do you ensure the gradient work hasn't affected the accuracy of the overall spread of gas and dust across so many panels?

Thanks Steve, mosaics aren’t really needed for 99% of your targets :)

I know Mike, not that you really need to mosaic with your FSQ
Largely have to let software determine what’s real and what isn’t. Theoretically if it shows up in both frames at edges then it’s real and through normalisation of both images, the overlap should determine it.

Thanks Marc! I just need a new computer, something a bit quicker than my aging laptop.
