Beginning of a new project, revisiting this popular gem of the Southern skies in Carina, imaged this time with the 10" f4 CF Newt in Ha.

Sometimes known as "the Statue of Liberty" nebula, NGC 3576 resides in the star forming region called RCW 57.

This image (https://www.astrobin.com/406744/0/) showcases dense knots of dark interstellar dust, bright stars that have formed in the past few million years, fields of glowing hydrogen gas ionized by these stars, and great loops of gas expelled by dying stars.

3hrs x 3nm Ha taken under a full moon from my backyard in Melbourne.
(Full colour NB to follow if the skies remain clear!)

PS: Starless version also attached for S&G, it's interesting to view the various structures without the stars.

It s not a statue of Liberty, nor a Basketball player ...it is clearly an Ibex (https://pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/163328895) :D

Nice start, looks good in Ha this neb

Cheers Peter, Bit late in the year to be starting this one, but when the moon is full & the nights are clear - well there we are

Ha Ha! (did you see what I did there)

Cheers Mike - like Forrest Gump & his box of Chocolates, there's something for everyone this Neb. Covered Wagons, Ibex's, Statues, Madonna on a Chariot... :D

Andy that's excellent. Everything is there.

You've shown a great deal of very faint material in the background, and brought out the intriguing dust lanes and some fan-like stripes that we've never noticed before, which is good, but at at the cost of posterising the very brightest stuff. Perhaps one could push the background a tiny bit less, and thereby avoid burning out or losing subtlety in the very brightest details.

We approve wholeheartedly of your not over-smoothing the background. Well done.

Lovely shot.

Best,
MnT

Great job Andy. Off to a flying start for this narrowband image.

Nice work Andy,
I can only see some noise at full resolution.
It's one of the most photogenic targets out there.

cheers

Well presented Andy and I do particularly like how, without those distracting stars, the background nebula pops a lot more ;)

Now I’d better hide before the Anti-Star Removal Protestors come knocking at my door.

Very nice, although I’m thinking more Rhythmic Gymnast nebula
