Had a full clear night and managed to image four fields with the 300mm lens. So I whipped up this mosaic with RegiStar. Each field had at least 14x3min exposures at at ISO of 200.
Image details 3.9MB and 7912x5103 pixels. The field of view is 12.5X8.0 degrees.

The original tiff is about 240MB and the highest quality JPG is 42MB.

Nice shot Bert,

I was scanning around your image and found an interesting object, but now I think it may just be NGC3699.. Well it looks similar to a small comet on your image...

Thanks all. If you click on the icon at the bottom right of the image in your browser on a typical monitor, the full image is 1.6 meters wide! The larger than 4MB images also show more detail. You should see the 42MB JPG image.
Below is a 100% crop at max quality from the 42MB JPG.

Can you see where I am headed with this. Look at the other image below. I have indexed the rotation on the 300mm lens so I know what rotational correction I should make to keep all images nice and parallel as the EQ mount is shifted from one field to the next. I am headed to the left if it is clear tonight.

Light pollution makes it difficult. Melbourne and its suburbs are all south of me. Really need to get to a clear ocean horizon to do anything worthwhile. I am working on it. I have not been able to even try due to clouds.

Here is a version using EasyHDR to compress the data from a 16 bit tiff.

The algorithm this program uses to compress a wide dynamic range image into an 8 or 16 bit image takes into account human visual response. This image would be much better if it was derived from a HDR image generated by a wide set of exposures.
