NGC 4361 is a planetary nebula that I always intended to image but somehow never got round to it. Anyway I finally managed it a few days ago. Visually it doesn't look like much but photographically it shows a lot of structure.

Cheers

Wow! The practice you've had on really obscure ones has paid off.

Wonderfully detailed, wonderfully three-dimensional.

Thanks Mike. That's the situation I've been in. Almost going to do it then something else intervenes and it's gone for another year.

Thanks Mike. I liked it.

Thanks. Generally pretty happy with it.

Nice Steve. :)
First PN I observed through my now 29 year old Celestron SCT in 1990.
Comes out in the eyepiece as very boxy and the central star is very
prominent in good seeing.
The nebula is slightly blue in high mag in the 16".
This PN is always worth a look and is easy to find.
Cheers:thumbsup:

Thanks guys. It's always been one of my favourites but it's taken a long time to get a decent image.

Fantastic photo! Saw this one last night and it reminded me of the Eight Burst Nebula - a bit rounder in shape and with a mottled structure. No suggestion of the beautiful colours you've picked out though - that's a cracker.

Thanks Patrick. Yes it is a fine planetary but looks a bit colourless visually. Narrow band is the best way to go with this one.

Nicely done Steve. I have added it to my list of targets. Your version will be a nice guide for me to follow and compare.

Thanks Paul. Just make sure you do it in narrow-band. It's pretty bland just in RGB.

Thanks Peter. It's not that tiny as planetaries go but I guess they are all a bit small.

Thanks Kevin. You need to do it in narrowband though. Pretty bland just in LRGB.
