A few questions and yes, i am aware that i should have done 2 not just the one for two items...

Ok not quite clear enough.... the right "drawing" was M42 and the question should have baan which one is E and F i know where the two are now..

Nice work Anthony. Nice to see someone jumping in and using the template. Soon we will be providing some targets for next month (not compuslary of course) that is hoped to extend people's observing skills through recording details of targeted objects and comparisons with others.

To answer your question (and I am going from your diagram) - the "E" component is the one "above" the 4 main stars (above and inbetween "B" and "A". The "F" component is the lower extra star and is tucked in close to the "C" component.

WOW so now i have to concentrate on G and H huh ???? :) but looking at the mag of them i think you'd prob. need a 20" to see them ...... and theres one coming on the 7th woo hoo

Divide your telescopes Focal length by the Focal length of your eyepiece. eg 1800 mm (only guessing) / 12.5 mm = 144X

Ok so that was at 120X
1500/12.5= 120X

Congrats on seeing the extra trapezium stars! Orion's disappeared behind my roof so I'll have to wait till next summer!

The grenade how does one clean the lense ??? or should i take it to a camera shop and get them to clean it ?

Anthony... a nuvver fing...

Just noticed you quoted your FOV as 50deg on your observing log. That's the "Apparent Field of View". What you want is the "Actual Field of View" which is the Apparent Field of View divided by the Magnification. So with your 12.5mm ep giving a mag of 120X, the "Actual Field of View" is 0.42deg or 25 arcmins (60 arcminutes per degree)

You always see the abbreviation AFOV but I can never figure out if the A means 'Actual' or 'Apparent' !!! But it keeps me on my toes and makes me feel like singing.
