NGC 3579 and 3603 in Carina

Tried 20 minute subs this time, damn these off axis guiders are great, no tube flexure to worry about and still no dec adjustments even on 20 minute subs thanks to Sharpcap polar align function. Was getting a bit windy too ahead of the approaching front but the gear performed flawlessly.

Image is 5 x 20 minutes , Modded 350D and LPS filter, Baader MPCC Coma Corrector. 10 inch f5.6 newtonian. Hand guided whule I watched the footy in a window on the laptop :)

Another great result Scott, 20 minute hand guided subs!! :bowdown: Love what you're doing, combining old with new, well, old with newer to be more precise. That Astro Optical gear was obviously built to last and the quality holds up with the optics of today.

There was an Astro Optical shop I used to visit in Melbourne during my early days of film astrophotography in the mid 80's and early 90's, there was a retail section below what was known then as the Southern Cross Hotel in Bourke Street ( Now gone but where the Beatles stayed in Melbourne during their Australian tour).

The guy that ran the shop then seemed old to me at the time but he was probably about my age now :(, he was always friendly and extremely helpful. I wonder if it had an affiliation with the Sydney store of the same name?

Actually imaging this target at the moment and if I can get anywhere near your images quality I will be very happy. Great result on an interesting area, well done.

Thanks all. I was fortunate that the mirror in my 10 inch was made by none other than Mark Sutching, so it's optical quality is great. Visually, one morning with the scope outside all night and the optics in nice thermal equilibrium, I clearly saw the "spokes" on Saturn's rings. The mirror has since been recoated with quartz overcoat, and is in pristine condition. Should last me for life :)

Thanks. If I lived at a really dark sky site Id consider a cooled DSLR and go for 1/2 hour subs :)
