Hi all
I’ve just got started in astronomy, very basic but enjoying it greatly. My wife and kids got me a little Celestron Dob Firstscope for my birthday; I’ve generally just been tracking satellites and space junk which I love. I live on the Northside of Brisbane and where we are the light pollution isn’t too bad.
Now tonight I saw something strange; apologies if it’s been addressed before. I was lining up to find a satellite going over, and then I noticed with my naked eye a flash, like a plane up high. My scope was positioned nearby so I managed to grab it. It was moving fast and flashing every few seconds but couldn’t make it out. I checked Heavens Above, Stellarium and Flightradar but there were no satellites or planes going over at that exact time (17:46). There were before and after. It was headed south to north and I spotted it in the gap between Sirius and Procyon. Just another exciting discovery!
