Backyard spectroscopy

Hi all
I've recently purchased the defraction grating filter from
https://www.rspec-astro.com/

After reading about doing actual science at home with the equipment I have has a lot of appeal . I'm fascinated by spectroscopy as it seems that a lot of what we know has been found by spectral analysis. So now I'm on the road of learning about this fascinating subject. The ease and near intuition of the software is pretty amazing. I am definitely a beginner in this area. Does anyone out there use the rspec filter and software? Managed to teach themselves ? If so what do you think? Would be great to hear how you find it.

Mat,
There are a few members on IIS with the SA100 gratings and some with more complex slit spectrographs (which provide better resolution)

I say using the SA100 is "Spectroscopy 101"

Howdy, I use the SA100 with year 12 students to capture and classify spectra. They get a real buzz out of it when they see how close they get to the right subclass. I however find the calibration for instrument response a little clunky. Tom from R-Spec has been a champion in helping us.
