M8 & M20 - Lagoon & Triffid - Finished Image

Hi guys,

Posted my Triffid and lagoon shot a few days ago.(old image also attached).

Finally got around to adding some time on this object and finished at nearly 2.5hrs data.


Also downloaded Carboni's Astro tools for photoshop to help with processing which made a "Huge" difference.

140x 60 sec - 800 ISO subs.

Very nice. The details in both nebula are nice and sharp. I love all the dark lanes of dust and they show up nicely in your image.. Can’t wait to have another go at this duo this year. Hoping to get some nice and sharp HA data to go with the RGB data.

I do have one question that you guys might be able to answer for me.

I use an Orion 0.85x Flattener/ reducer. The star field is generally pretty sharp across the frame but the corners still suffer from coma.

I do notice that my subs tend to show coma/ focus issues in 2 corners while the other side is still pretty sharp. Example being in my lagoon image the left side (top and bottom corners) is pretty sharp but the right side starts to look a bit "out of focus".

Is this a spacing issue with the flattener/ reducer or is it a tilt problem??

I did also astromodify the camera myself so maybe its sensor tilt from that mod?? I know I didn't get the sensor spacing perfect for use with standard lenses, so thinking maybe it's slightly tilted also??

Excellent final result.
I would start at the sensor.
I have a similar problem and I think its the flattener to sensor where the problem lays but I just dont seem to get around to fixing it ... its on a long list of things to sort out one day.
Your image inspired me to have a go at the Lagoon last night and although it was wet and foggy I managed data in all but O11 and S11 ..only 10 minutes in each of RBG but something to play with to see how it compares with last years effort with a dslr which I was most happy with.
