I loved the amazing shots of the Pencil nebula NGC2736 by Andy & Gary. So thought I'd see how I go with an OSC camera using the STC Duo filter. This is 10 hours worth of 10min subs, ASI071 camera on GTF81 refractor. A slightly wider field than those by Andy and Gary.

Very nice shot Chris, really like the framing, gives it a dynamic feel

Cool framing Chris, except it looks upside down to me!
Interesting results with that filter combo - worth going deeper if you get a chance

Thanks Mike and Andy. I wasted a few hours getting the framing right. I was going for the 'craft returning to the mothership'.

I was hoping to get double the hours, but the weather has been nonsense. Maybe it won't be too low at the end of the month. Trouble is I'm northern Sydney suburbs, so a lot of sky glow there.

Time spent framing is never wasted.
Often it’s the difference between a good picture and a great picture!
Placing a DSO in the middle of the frame is usually the least interesting from a compositional viewpoint, so well done.
Ps:It’s definitely upside down, the crew are hanging by their seatbelts

Pencil you say? I believe John Wick wants to know your location.

Great image though.

Thanks Marc and Adrian. I had to Google John wicks + pencil as I've never heard of it - that is one gross pencil scene.

A fine image. Interesting contrasts between the Pencil, the SNR shock fronts toward top of frame, and the chaotic nebulosity to the right. Makes one want to see what is just out of frame!

Thanks Mike & Trish.
This was just out of the frame. Taken with a Rokinon 135mm lens on the same camera/filter, 6hrs of 5min subs
