While it might be an urban myth, Einstein is often quoted: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results".

Given the linked image, is an 8 hour stack of luminance frames acquired during several nights of ordinary seeing,

I guess it was nuts, (well, perhaps just foolish) for me to have expected a resolution improvement via simply adding more data.

That said, the image depth, particularly given my urban location is quite pleasing.

I rather like the island universe "vibe" .

Now all I need is some colour....

Lookin' pretty damned good for ordinary seeing, Peter. Great handling of the core.

Pretty darn good resolution just the same Peter. There's a distinct 3D quality there.

Cheers

Yes there is a distinctly 3D look. I haven't seen that before. Its so sharp and detailed without being oversharpened. A remarkable effect.

Greg.

Love the depth Peter, looking forward to a full colour rendition :)

Thanks guys. The colour data will have to wait until the next new moon as I am soon off on a short break. Unfortunately the seeing was 2-3 arc sec most nights so the data doesn't quite have the snap that I know the optics can deliver. There is an bright guide star with that framing that allowed AO guiding at about 10Hz....a rare treat...but will also allow some H-alpha data in due course.

Looking good Peter. Stacks of little background faint fuzzies as well across the field. Looks like tonight will be pretty decent if it stays clear.

Thanks Marc...the 4kx4k image reveals a lot more faint fuzzies...many uncatalogued, but unless they become interesting, I've discovered the professionals are not interested in cataloguing them. But, tonight does indeed look promising

Start your own catalogue then: pw1, pw2, pw3, etc... I'm not into t-shirts but if you make caps or mugs I'll get one.
