This post is in reaction to alan meehan's thread about daylight savings and GPS issues.
I am close to completing a similar set up with an AZ-EQ6 on a permanent pier in Roll off Roof observatory.
Do I need a GPS involved? I assumed that once the correct lat and long is entered into the hand controller, it would be remembered when the mount is parked and powered off at the end of observing. Is this not so?
It will be used in Alt Az mode and visual only.
Thanks

Michael

No.
Input details once and that's it.

If it is staying in one place you really only need to enter the location once, then after that it is just date and time on power on.

It is all information that you can pull out of pretty much any modern phone anyway.

Of course it's necessary - how else are you going to track your observatory's movement over the years? ;)
