Hi all,
Last night was supposed to be clear all night...... until it wasn’t.
All I could manage between clouds was this set of just under 45mins
Vixen 130mm Newtonian
Astro Moddified Canon 350d
29 x 90sec @iso 800
14 darks

Yeah it's been a struggle up the road too Ryan - start imaging while cloud is clearing, get some fairly clear sky for a couple of hours, shut down as the fog starts to develop.
At least you got a decent image for your efforts

It's disappointing when the computer modelling let's you down. You plan for a good productive night that doesn't eventuate. At least you managed to capture something. By the looks of things, you may need to shoot some flats to avoid that vignetting and hot spot in the centre. You have certainly captured plenty of galaxies in that field, so well done to you and the stars look nice and sharp.
I drove out to the outskirts of Melbourne last night for some astrophotography fun. They sky was clear but the dew was horrendous. The objects I shot were high above so the dew had uninterrupted access to my mirror and lenses! :mad2:

Tony,
Thank you :)
You've been far busier than I. I'm struggling to keep up. The quality of some of your recent images is inspiring too. Hopefully the weather is clear for both of us before o moon comes up to spoil the party.
Michael,
The worst is hen the computer modelling changes in the current hour. Thanks guys but I can tell it's cloudy because when I look up, I can't see stars ! I was kinda hoping you'd tell me before I worked it out for myself !
Where near Melbourne are you. I have a dark site I go to near Bacchus Marsh.
You're right, I do need to organise flats for my images. I can do it for my other OTAs but this one I struggle to illuminate properly and I've been lazy in sorting it out. Thank you for your encouraging words.
I wouldn't complain about that to much nice capture indeed.

Great shot Ryan, you got a lot of image with such a short time.
I tried this area a few weeks ago www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=174169
and did 4 hours over 2 nights but still coulddo with more data so I'd be pretty happy with what you got in 45 mins.
Its a real eye opener that there are so many gaxaies in one little area.
This area is worth a revisit and keep adding data to your image.
Cheers
Andy

Thank you Carlton
Thank you Andy. It is an interesting area of space for sure. I feel like I've gone back to the beginning with my imaging. I've gathered quite a bit of new equipment in the last few months and being able to do longer exposures has brought challenges of it's own. It's like what I knew before no longer applies and it's created such a new learning curve. I don't think I've given any target the time it deserves for a while and I need to get back to picking a target and running with it.

I would be happy with such a nice capture.
