:hi: For anyone in Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains, (or for that matter for anyone further afield who is interested as well) :

WSAAG are having an observing session :stargaze: at Linden this Saturday, and we thought it a good idea to have a BBQ whilst daylight saving is here.

The WSAAG home page is at:

http://www.wsaag.org/

Directions to Linden are at:

http://www.wsaag.org/Linden.html

We will commence 4.30 for 5.00 pm.

It is a BYO food and drinks, we will provide the BBQ facilities.

Even if you can not make it until after 5.00 pm bring your steak and drinks.

Tried to ring you today mustta copied the number wrong but had a nice chat to a lady who knew nothing about astronomy, anyway taking Dad in for the big opperation tomorrow so I may not be going North and will try to get out there... on the other hand maybe will be going North but it will all depend on how things turn out tomorrow as all movements are around the outcomes etc. I just want to get to my first star party.

Hi Narayan,

I wish observing nights weren't on Saturday night because I work most nights and have a job that I simply can't get out of. I occasionally get a weeknight free, but usually the only reliable night off is Sunday.

I am going to the Wednesday night meeting at the Uni the following week, as I have arranged for a reshuffle work wise. I used to be a WSSAG member about 8 years ago then had to leave astronomy all together.

Now that I'm interested again, it's killing me that I can't get to an organized observing night. When I was a member last time, I know that several people used to go observing at Linden on unofficial nights, via a ring-around system, I am hoping that is still possible, otherwise I will never get to a real observing night, and I really need to go because I have a great many gaps in my knowledge that only direct observation will resolve.

Anyway, I just thought I would put these thoughts into words to see if I feel any better and I don't :(

I hope you guys have a great evening this Saturday regardless. ;)

ok hope to see you alex and chris at Linden

Ron, we'll just have to organise a Sunday observing session for you..just have to wait till winter when it gets darker earlier and we can get some observing done even if we have to have an early night.

Now you are speaking my language  think about this from every angle, there could be a stack of others in the same boat as me who work Saturday nights, and if it became widely known that members could select between a Saturday or Sunday night, it might lead to more members ;)

If you can think of it, ask a few of the people who turn up this Saturday if they would like the option of having one or two Sunday observing nights a month, you might be surprised to find out that some people would love it.

Some of the most active members would probably go regardless of what night it was, even on a cut down basis, as long as one committee person was willing to always be on hand to supervise.
