I know it isn't exactly Astronomy but have you stopped and wondered just how lucky we are ! I have and do all the time.
There are some things I could never live without now that many here take for granted such as the PC mouse, I remember 100% keyboard input.
One of my most used Astronomical tools is my Black and Decker workmate.
Today again I have been using my ED scope with daystar Chromosphere on my Skywatcher Solar Tracking mount, mount, switch on and 100% perfect alignment.
Remember film, the BAD old days, give me my DSLR any time for Astrophotography and day to day use

Great starter to remember the old days as well Jeremy.
The library of Alexandria had a room where folk could go just to think or muse apparently and they called it the museum.
Long life milk is something I like as I love my milk and so can store a good supply and never run out.
And the humble mobile phone...what a wonderful thing..tap the screen and get the weather, news, a video on making moon shine and little apps that can be so handy...and with a still and movie camera giving one the capability to produce and publish your very own movie if you feel so inclinded.
Frozen vegetables are great...no preparation and they keep forever.
I always take time to count my blessings and the benefits of living in this wonderful age in what I really believe is the best country in the world from a social, economic, political and weather point of view.
I complain about being in Sydney but often say its that I live in the best part of the best city in the best country on the world...and when I go bush happily I find myself in the best country region in the country.
But what I think is really great is the relative cheapness of all reasonably decent astronomy gear from mounts and scopes to cameras and software.

I spent some time in PNG with the only option for milk in the area being Long life. I'll give you that it's an advancement but you can keep it. Much prefer the real stuff. :)
I'll add to the list of things:
Cars, as in the improvements to features that really matter - brake systems, power steering, A/C :) etc.
Because of the industry I work in, the changes in computers have been a huge and in general make things so much better than the old days. Not only hardware of course, but software too. So many clunky things I needed to deal with in the past - no longer needed and I can move on to more important aspects of what I am trying to do.

I agree, I had a Ford 1.6 Cortina UAD960H, Mk 3 2l cortina PPE 975L, (Autism, great memory), I remember in those days whenever i went to work hoping it would not brake down, even though they were well maintained.
These days I bought my car new in 2006 Scenic 1.9, we take for granted that they will start every time and run, and touch wood :)
Another one for you
SatNav, yes I hate it, it also is not 100% but I could not be without it
