Finally some sun again 23.3.19

Finally got some sun today so I made the most of it and imaged the sun spot before it disappears.
Quark Chromo , ST80 , 127 and ASI174

Wow, impressive detail, very well imaged and processed. the Quark certainly delivers.

(not sure about the inverted "look" but very nice nevertheless)
Looking at the spiculation layer I'd say you're getting around 0.8A bandwidth.

Thanks Ken inverse I know what you mean but it just looks much more interesting visually but these compressed jpeg dont do the originals justice .
How did you work out 0.8A btw

Mark,
When the bandwidth decreases the amount and contrast between the sharper photospheric edge and the spiculation layer decreases...
When you get down around 0.3 to 0.4A (ie generally double stack) the photospheric "edge" disappears and you only get the spiculation, proms etc.
The wider the bandwidth the more prominent the photospheric edge....hence my estimate.

I think you refer to the CWL central wavelength. The bandwiidth is locked in by the etalon.

Great images! I have been trying with a ZWO ASI294MC but can't get the exposure anywhere near what you are.

Would you mind sharing your settings??


BTW, I'm using a Celestron Edge 1100HD with a .7 reducer the ASI and a Celestron Sun filter.

Your set up is for white light imaging-sunspots etc.
Mark is using an Ha special filter to show the prominences etc.
Different set of rules.

As Ken said Ha imaging is different to white light the images look very differrent but in saying that I get around 120fps with the ASI174 which is a mono camera.

Thank you both for the reply, I had a look on-line, filters are not cheap are they.

I'm keen to go further with Sun imaging, I'll have to save and look at options 8-))

I'm going to sell some surplus stuff in a few weeks - that might fund some filters.
