Yes one of my favorite clips.
I thought I posted it some time ago but I am glad to see it has drawn attention independant of my input.
I just purchased a "strum box" from Aldi...it came with four nylon strings but I have turned it into a three string slide...works ok so far.

The three string approach enables anyone to play a blue structured song easy...the unit is tuned to produce a "power chord" ... say a low "E" on the bottom string and a "B" on the middle string and a higher "E" on the top string.
Playing all strings in the open position gives a "E" power chord ... placing the slide on the fifth fret gives you your "A" power chord and on the seventh fret you get your "B" power chord...you can use the twelve fret to produce a high "E" power chord.
Blues runs thru a cycle of 12 bars and repeats over and over.
Four bars in "E" then two in "A" then two in "E" then one in "B" one in "A" one in "E" one in "B" ..hopefully thats 12☺ and start again...some many songs follow that structure you will be amazed...

I think he is a really good player and I have watched most of his utube stuff...only blues really but who needs anything else as it gives a structure to work within...And that means you can play along adding "your" bits.

Jamming with him really helps develop your playing.

Thanks for posting what is perhaps my favorite clip.

Alex,

A good explanation but don't forget 16 bar blues which in basic form is C, Am, F and G7.

And, as with 12 bar, there are so many "tweaks".

I call that a turn around...same chords as blues progression but the first chord is followed by its minor.. 1st one bar, 1sts minor one bar, 2nd one bar, third one bar then start over☺... so many songs follow that structure also.
I see Jazz as chords 2 and 3 but represented by all their relations☺.

Justin can really play well but what folk miss is his ability to adjust the effects and amp to produce his sound.
Of course all musicians must have that ability but he can generate exceptionally nice sounds.

Great homemade slide guitar and stylish playing. A spade was the wise choice.

The Aldi guitar is a cigar box slide which is supposed to be something you make for yourself after the poor boy model. Very popular.

The DIY effect is the whole point and with a slide , opening tuning , a pickup and an amp you do just about anything. Any old guitar or side of a building with a pickup up sounds good that way.

There is a composer who plays fence wires and rusted out cars. Sounds great.
