As you all know I see it as my roll to present stuff to grizzle about☺ so I ask if others get ticked off by road repairs or "road works"?

Now I know the roads need maintenance and happy for that to occur but it really seems to me there are some annoying things that we can focus upon and enjoy a worthwhile grizzle☺.

Now is it me or do "they" put up signs and speed restriction indicators and fail to do any work for ages or upon completion leave the stuff in place for unreasonably long lengths of time forcing one to drive slow for no good reason as saftey concerns have past with the absence of personnel or completed repairs.

It seems sometimes the company that puts out the witches hats are getting work that simply is not needed...I recall encountering about half a klm of witches hats on a trip down with nothing going on at all...on my return I saw one guy with a bag picking up junk 30 meters from the road edge...he may have been unrelated to the roads and just hunting alluminium cans..but hardley a need for all those hats.
I cant recall if there was a slow down sign etc but would be surprised that the sign contractor would accept missing out on the job☺.

I would love to stake out one of these situations as with that one I am sure no work ever took place on or near the road.

I always obey the speed limit but the clear abuse of the system by leaving stuff in place with no reason must contribute to a disrespect for the speed signs and so folk start to just ignore them because so many times they are unwarrented.

And at a local level...why is June the favorite month for road works☺ and why do you only find road works on the main road usually repairing stuff that has you wondering what curious priority saw that job get done over a variety of really bad road sections not on the main road.

So has anyone noticed the sort of problem that I have noticed?

Perhaps because June is the end of the financial year and they are rapidly trying to spend budgeted funds before 1 July. I know from my time in NSW Health, that any unspent funds reverted to NSW Treasury coffers if not spend by 30 June. There was always a mad rush to get invoices in by the deadline, often when the work had not actually been completed.

I have been watching a couple of road projects near my place, including the M1 'endless' extra lane project between Wyong and Morisset. Yes the guys that just move signage around seem to have a pretty easy gig. And Let's not even get started on the Pacific Highway Dual Carriage Way Project which has been going on for decades, and still shows no sign of being completed before I die.

I recently drove to Mt Gambier and back.

The number of speed restrictions when nothing was happening was sicking. Consequently, people often just ignored them. So such signs lose their legitimacy when there is no need for them.

If road authorities want to be treated seriously, they need to put in a serious effort to get it right.

Hi Glen
You caused me to recall an incident when I worked in the Comminwealth Attorney Generals Department Family Court division☺.
My mate was the office manager.
I found him with a clip board countinf the wall hangings..what are you doing ...I am making up the allocation for next year...But there are about 60 spares in the store room...I know that but if we dont put in the request they wont give us any more☺.

Haha, sounds like an episode of Utopia (love that show.). The obsession with catering everything is spot on.
