At arrival in Brisbane I bought a Vodafone SIM card for $30 which worked flawlessly, it included 45GB of data as well.
But suddenly the 4G data stopped, despite being on. I went to a local phone shop and they told me that in this area (Bellingen east of Coffs Harbor) Vodafone has no coverage and they roam on Telstra.

So when I switched on Data roaming (which was switched off) it worked again.
Is this indeed the case ?

Looks like Bellingen isn't within the Vodafone coverage area...

Yes ... having been to Coffs - there’s a Voda shop in the main street an network coverage 100m either side of it. But elsewhere it’s Vodafail.

Be careful what you pay when roaming - doing this on Telstra can become very expensive.

I had Vodafone some years back and live around 17km from the CBD in Adelaide, I could not get coverage here, even though their maps said I could. It may have changed, but their coverage maps are totally false and indeed their coverage was absolute crap. Would not touch them with a barge pole.
