I've recently purchased a Quark to add to my H-alpha imaging system.

I'd appreciate feedback from quark owners who are also using 90mm or so aperture refractors....

Do you also use an energy rejection filter? or has heat build-up not been
a problem without one? (the manual says an 80mm limit...but who reads manuals :) )

Most users over on the SolarChat site add a UV-IR rejection filter for aperture less than 100mm...belt and braces.

Daystar says and most users follow the rule that you just need a uv/ir filter in front of the Quark up to 150mm . At 150 and over should use a front ERF
. I use mine with an 80 , 102 and 127 refactors with just a 2"uv/ir filter and no issues with heat at all.
I should add that if you have an oil spaced lens or rear elements thats a different matter.

Thanks very much....UV/IR it is then

Peter
The front ERF was more about reducing tube thermals in larger scopes rather than the risk of damage.

Marke,
Just a correction...
ALL the manufactures of Petzval designed (rear element) scopes have confirmed in writing are 100% safe to use without an ERF.
They are all confirmed to be suitable for use with a Herschel wedge with no up front protection.

Thanks for that

Curious as to which one you got Peter?

Ha prom Quark.

Interesting beastie...first light was late yesterday afternoon.

The field illumination is no where near as uniform as my front mounted etalons, but, that said I was impressed with the contrast...hence I'd pick one of these over a PST any day...sure a little more expensive, but better views IMHO.

It also double stacked well with the 90mm etalon...very contrasty!

I do hope you read your manuals .... ' checklist ' ....before departure and on finals ....:P

Have to say the A380 FCOM was a daunting document that familiarity with
was definitely required for continued employment ..but have to observe in retirement, I don't miss the hours of study before a Sim session in the slightest :)

I'll bet .... when in doubt ... read the ' Manual ' ... again and again and again
A Sim session ....I'll bet they throw up all sorts of ' scenarios ' at you ...!!:eyepop: ....little old lady walking down the runway right when your at v1

V1 cuts in the A380 were not too difficult......occasionally we had a little fun
in the Sim.... Such as flying a B747 under the Sydney Harbour bridge (it was a tight fit!).

Oh come on really...it's only a light twin ....;) ............. plenty of room..;)
I landed an ATR-72 on an Aircraft Carrier in FSX ...

Sorry ...didn't mean to go off topic, I'll keep quiet now...!!

No probs....747 a light twin? Don't think so...but maybe if you had a double engine failure ;)

And you don't need a front mounted ERF with an air spaced refractor of 120mm

to me

Jeremy,
It is correct to say a front mount ERF is not needed with a 120mm refractor.

It's difficult to figure out why you are not achieving focus without being there. What size/ style eyepiece are you using?

YOU are completely right

Daystar do NOT say you need a filter and you do not ONLY on oil spaced refractors Daystar clearly state this in leaflets and emails
