Ngc 2808

Adding to my list of globular cluster images NGC 2808 is located in Carina and at magnitude 6.2 is a good target to challenge beginners
It was my last night down the coast before heading back to Sydney for grandparent duties
Nice and clear at 9.00pm so set up for 40 x 2 minute guided subs
Got to sub no 8 and heaps of low coastal cloud decided to block my FOV
Waited for 40mins and still not clear so took some darks and packed up for the night around 10.30pm
Went outside at 11.00pm totally clear but moon was rising so went to bed
Here’s the result of 8 x 2 minute subs and some darks
Stacked in DSS and processed in Startools

Nice star colours you've captured there. Just goes to show that you don't need a lot of subs to get a pleasing result. :thumbsup:

Nice star colours as others have said. Also - looks like you captured a background galaxy at 10 o'clock. Maybe PGC320412?

I was surprised how this image turned out with very few subs
Also the jetstream on CFN was 46kt which is fairly high and I did have trouble getting a good sharp focus on my test star

Shame about the weather, beautiful clean stars there in the cluster maybe a distant galaxy top left too?

Good pick up on the galaxy Markus and Steve
I’m always looking at the main core area and off axis star shape all the time but missing out on the interstellar background
I might try and reprocess that area to expose it a bit better ( maybe ) ?

Thanks for the kind sentiments Michael,appreciate it and I’m sure other imagers do also !!
This is the first time imaging this globular cluster and it took me by surprise how much detail it has, next time I need more data to expose more detail
I’m only a rank beginner in imaging but I’m learning step by step
Like you I enjoy visual astronomy too.I have a Skywatcher 12” GOTO Dob and on rare occasions Ill be imaging in the backyard with my 6” and observing out the front with the 12” on the same object
I was indeed lucky to do that during early January when family came down to our holiday house south coast NSW. I was imaging M42 in the backyard and at the same time had M42 in my 21mm Ethos eye piece on the big dob tracking nicely, there was a queue of 6 people waiting their turn to have a peep through the eye piece
I was certainly in my element that evening with good seeing conditions, no moon and most importantly no mosquitoes
