Hey all,

I've been wanting to do some planetary imaging for a long while now, but really haven't had the equipment. not too long ago i picked up a used Sky-watcher 127 Mak-Cass from an IIS user. I paired this beautiful little gem of a scope with a 2x barlow and my QHY5IIL-M quidecam for this image. Due to seeing, dawn light creeping in and issues with the tracking of the Alt/Az mount, i could only catch a very short set of frames.

Best 75% of about ~800 frames, stacked in AutoStakkert2

That's looking good so far. You may want to experiment with smaller percentages of frames, even with the short capture window you're working with.

I often find sharper images at 5% of subs stacked.

Cheers

Ah! I've been playing by DSO imaging rules, where more frames make for better images. I'll go and have a look back through the 10%, 25%, & 50% stacks that AS automatically produces and see if any of them are better.

I'm pretty pleased with the first attempt and the amount of detail I'm able to catch in the cloud bands. Can't wait to get another opportunity.

A nice Jupiter with a lot of fine detail
