Had the pleasure of photographing a theoretical physicist yesterday.
Dr. Joseph Voros.
Fascinating field he works in... got chatting about astronomy (as you do).
Turns out he’s fascinated by Hoag’s Object- and the possibilities of it being macro engineering on a cosmic scale- so much so he’s lectured on the subject.
Check out his blog here... https://thevoroscope.com/2018/07/18/is-hoags-object-an-engineered-galaxy/
Cheers

Wow, looks like the super gate built by the ORI...

A Kardashev Type III civilization is also not going to trample half way across the Universe to pick a fight with us! :) We'd be no more than mice to them, if we even registeted on their radar...

Also - there appears to be another one in the distant background. Intergalactic steppingstones ? Stargates ?

Bugger, missed that one.
Yup, we're screwed...

I think unless it's absolutely necessary to engineer a galaxy in this shape to utilise it's energy for development, a civilisation won't do it to attract (potentially dangerous) attentions from the neighbourhood.
Now the question is, tech-wise, what is the benefit to build ring galaxy than just use a natural one that justify the effort and risk?
Maybe the answer can lead human to Type III someday :)

Perhaps access to power, formed by directed gravitational fields?:lol:
No matter what the answer is, this is a lovely looking galaxy!

I reckon this one's been processed by Andy coz it looks like an eye looking right back at you. ;)

Not guilty but thanks for the nice compliment! :thanx:
Wish I had the FL to take a crack at it myself though- it’s a spectacular Object :D
