Hi Guys.

I live in around the Leichardt area so light pollution here is a big issue. I basically don't see many starts in the sky at all. I'm looking for some "darker" sites anywhere around Sydney, say about an hours drive out of Sydney. I know the it will still be fairly bright but it has to be better than what I have to put up with.

I promise if you tell me I'll keep it a secret ;).

Thanks
Sandy

Hi Sandy.

For only 1 hour it's going to be tough. On the central coast (at Kulnura) there's a great "dark" site we meet up each new moon - we'll be there this weekend. It might take you 1.5 hours, but the company and skies are worth it.

Otherwise, the blue mountains is good - there's an observatory and observing groups at Linden, I believe. I know MAS and other groups also meet down south.

Good luck, it's DEFINITELY worth it!

Excelsior Street in Leichardt used to have dark skies. (A very long time ago though).

We meet at Kulnura (Central Coast) each new moon. Not really that far to travel I suppose for the relatively dark skies.

EDIT: Doh, can't get a word in edgewise when talking about Kulnura and Mike's around.

Thanks Guys. I'm often up in Gosford for the weekend as my partners parents live there. I lived there myself for while when I first came to OZ from Scotland.
I have to admit thought that I havent heard of Kulnura, where is that exactly.

Oh yeah 1.5 hours isnt so bad.
Thanks
Sandy
