Hi, Not sure if i have posted quiet in the right area or not, so apologises first if this is in the wrong location.
I am thinking of dabbling into astrophotography, nothing to fancy or great yet as i only have a 10 inch Dobsonian and a digital SLR.
Looking just to start with the Moon and hopefully some planets to start with.

Doing a bit of research, it looks like a good program to start out with is registax 6,

Now this might be an odd or basic question, but where is the best safe place to download it from?
I have done a bit of searching around and just getting lost, lost of places to download it from, but i was hoping if i asked the question here, i would get a good reliable source on where it is best to get it from.

Sorry for the long post, But any information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Peter.

Directly from the developer https://www.astronomie.be/registax/download.html

Most people doing planetary imaging these days use AutoStakkert for the main processing, frame selection and stacking, and then import the resulting stacked image into Registax and do the final sharpening using its Wavelets feature. https://www.autostakkert.com/

Having said that, your DSLR is better suited to deep sky imaging. For planetary imaging you're better to go with one of the ZWO planetary cams which will give you a much higher frame rate (but much smaller field of view).

+1 from me.

The other program worth having is Filip's ImPPG -Image PostProcessing
(http://greatattractor.github.io/imppg/tutorial/tutorial_en.html)
I find for solar it does a better job than Registax.

Thanks for the replies and advice, appreciated.
i can't say i have heard of any of those other ones, will have to do a bit of research into them.
Some good advice on the ZWO planetary cams, i have heard that the Dobsonians are not the best for astro photography, but don't really want to get a dedicated mount yet until i am sure i want to get into the astro photography more.
But appreciate all the advice.
Appreciated.
Peter.
