Very very undecided on this. The framing wasn't the greatest so without its wings the Seagull/Parrot isn't really doing it for me. I like it upside down (the dead parrot perhaps!) but also liked focusing just on the clouds, although the limited data is a little exposed. Then there's the parrot mug shot. It is what it is I guess.

Yep, definitely a leaping shaggy dog, one with a smiley face.
Interesting bow wave from the star in the bottom left quadrant.
The Ha and OIII combined well for a nice colour definition.

Thanks Rodney. Im still discovering all the little details in and around this object, many of which got lost for the sake of framing the dog but really didn’t want to lose the star and its bow wave.

Looks quite nice Ben, one could say it isn't "too shaggy" :P

Like your Rosette and even though the distribution of the emission lines is different...I think it will look even better once it is SIIHaOIII though :confuse3: :thumbsup:

Thanks Mike and Marc. It was one of those objects I had a half interest in and thus suceeded in only capturing half of. Mike, the latest Rosette is a SHO palette, although I haven’t sought to banish the green and there seemed to be a lot of complexity in the colour. I didn’t do an awful lot to it either - just S curves :shrug:

Good, there really should be some green in NB images of nebulae, this notion that green is bad is nonsense, it represents the Ha in an SIIHaOIII blend :shrug: Of course too much green can look aesthetically unpleasing but it should be there :)

Your narrow band Rosette is a very "real" approximation of the emission happening, not simply a purely artistic interpretation :painting: and it looks great :thumbsup:

Sort of real I guess. There was some ‘linear fit’ involved in balancing the SII, Ha and OIII before colour combination (in the Rosette) so the presence of certain bands of light is shown but perhaps not on their relative abundance??? Also the Ha is 5nm and the SIII and OIII are 3nm (all unbinned 1x1) with roughly equal exposure times...probably a way of combining with some proportional accuracy but I follow my eyes at this point. This HOO IC2177 combo didn’t take much tweaking. I think applying a background neutralization (? or similar) had the same effect as the linear fit in the other image
