Well the flames does show up, so you are capturing red. It might be useful to go to longer subs and crank the ISO down to reduce the noise. I am not suggesting you will pick up the Horsehead (which is within that field above the asterism to the right of Alnitak), but it might improve your result.

Hi Glen, It is difficult to get consistently round stars at much more than 30 secs @ 200mm focal length with the little Nano Tracker[ I have to use a compass and inclinometer for PA], depending upon my PA accuracy on any given night. I'm not surprised that the flame shows up well, its nowhere
near as far into the red as the horsey. Being restricted to fairly short subs
I usually use faster lenses around f/2-f/2.8, but this one is slow at f/5.6
at 200mm, so I upped the ISO. I normally shoot at 1600 which is the so called sweet spot for the 600D. It was made worse last night with the ambient being 18 degs.

I agree that your shot is too clipped, I downloaded your image to my phone and made a quick edit. Your Horsey is there and noise wasn't all that bad. Pretty nice shot for 30 sec sub on the Nano tracker at 200mm . As you know, I use these little trackers and can appreciate the difficulty achieving round stars with longer exposures. Nicely done! :thumbsup:

The Bojan Wide Field mount may come together my next trip North and I am getting a 59 mm lens to go real wide for whats coming...that reminds me U need a invalometer??? one that enables long exposure repeat wuthout a lao top.
This mount with goog pa and only 50 mm sould go great.

Cheers Alex, I've been using an intervalometer for about 9 or 10 yrs now,
wouldn't be without it, especially at only $20 on ebay.
With a good mount at 59mm you should only be limited by how dark the sky is.

Hi Alex, As I am using an inclinometer and compass for PA, my PA accuracy
varies quite a lot, so with 50mm lens anywhere from 75 secs to 150 secs,
so 200mm a quarter of those figures, so around 20 to 40 secs.
If I happen to hit on a really accurate PA, I can extend these maxima to around 180 and 50 respectively.
