Hi ,

Here is a pic taken while testing the autoguider after mount polar alignment.

The pic is the result of exposure blending 11 images with exposures of 1sec. to 1024 sec. (total time = 2047 sec.) In a sequence of 1,2,4,8 .... sec. The sequence gives a 14 Fstop range. ISO = 800. It should be possible to lower the ISO setting to get a better SNR. These images were combined to make a single HDR image format (eg. Radiance RGBE) then tone compressed to make the colours fit the monitor.

Camera is a standard EOS350D

Dark frame processing was done in the camera and there is no stacking.

Notice that Zet-Ori is nicely resolved and the companion is clearly visible.
Some structure in the Horsehead is being revealed
The Flame is showing up quite well.

Jerry:)

addition:

Note the Bok Globules are visible in the reflection nehula below zet-ori - see larger pic.

Excellent, Jerry! Beautiful image. You should resize it to something like 1024 or 800px wide, so we can see more of the beauty!

I'll upload a jpg image presently.

It looks as if the application of High Dynamic Range (HDR) techniques work very well with astro images.

I'll try M42 tonight - last try was a disaster - knocked the camera.

BTW M42 is so bright that exposures may have to start at about 0.125 sec.

Jerry.

Hi Jerry, Zeta Orionis split very nicely and the companion looks great.
Cant wait to see the larger version.

Jerry,

All I did with your pic was "save as web" in photoshop, and adjusted the compression slider until the filesize was under 150k. It was already only 850px wide.

Lovely shot!
