Carrying on from my earlier images of the LMC and the Ghost of Magellan here is a recent image I took showing the outer halo of stars of the Large Magellanic Cloud. Its quite a bit larger than what is normally seen. You can also see the little tidal stream coming off the SMC.

Sony A7r3 200 x 30 seconds ISO 3200 Sigma Art 35mm F1.4. Using Sony's pixel shift technology, taken at my dark site on a Vixen Polarie tracker.
I used PixInsight for some of the processing (aligning and stacking).

You’ve gone quite deep with that dust!
What F/Stop did you use with the 35mm
I’ve been meaning to do something like this for a while but lacking a suitable lens.

Love it Greg!
Does seem a tad blurry at full res though, even more so at the corners?
Sooooo many stars :eyepop:
Confirms the notion that “there are more stars in the sky than grains of sand on all the beaches on the Earth”.

Thanks Josh. It is surprising how many stars there are in that area.
The lens wide open at F1.4 does seem to have a little bit of aberration. The price you pay for the F1.4.
Cheers Marc. I was wanting to go as deep as possible.

There certainly is a lot of dust in the area but the halo is real.

I suspect that if you had continued to gether photons, you would have ended up with a completely white image

Hehe yes, it was gaining photons at a mad rate. F1.4 really captures a lot of light.
