Er... must be a slow news day ... it's quite usual for a hemisphere to not have a decent lunar eclipse for several years. It's even factually wrong...
"Total eclipses happen only when the Earth moves precisely between the Sun and Moon"... solar eclipses yes, but not lunar eclipses (!)

Agreed... plus the article makes such generalizations that it makes you wonder who's writing this stuff...
From my perspective, it start at the bottom and works its way upward... picky picky I know, but in science, accuracy and precision is important! :D

There’s a link to the Canon of Eclipses out to 3,000CE.
Espenak's work has to be the best eclipse resource out there. I have huge respect for the guy. Made contact with him in 2013 and nearly managed to arrange a meet up with the man (my copy of Totality is still unsigned) in outback NT for the annular eclipse, but he had to pull out from the trip he had planned to OZ for logistical reasons.
Lunar Eclipses rock, and I like the way media now report on them before they happen, as opposed to years ago, when after-the-fact reporting was standard.

05:12:18 UT1 is the time of maximum lunar eclipse tomorrow.
I found a site. Its during our afternoon so we don't see it.
Our next lunar eclipse is a partial one on July 17 this year.
Greg.

Mirko many years ago the ABC asked for an original slide (one of many) I took during a lunar eclipse in 1978 with an 8” Newtonian... on subsequent eclipse nights up until the early 2000’s it was used as the backdrop to the 7:25pm national weather... Bintel had a print from it, too.

26 May 2021 is the next total eclipse in Oz, but barely total (M=1.01).
