Can someone help me with what no doubt is a dumb question. Atlas of the Southern Sky p 202 Velorum. Where do I find the HIP for h (Herschel) 4104 etc etc. I use SkyPortal on my tablet via wifi for viewing but the search goto function needs HIP - is a constant nuisance for me. Is there a online cross reference catalog.
I am new to this. Retired a year ago. Setup is CGEMII EQ, EdgeHD 925, ZWO ASI1600MM & 8EFW plus Starry Night Proplus 8. My interest is eclipsing binaries which came out of reading "The Glass Universe" by Dava Sobel a couple of years back. Live in Perth West Aust 5 km west of Bickley Observatory.
Cheers.

My first thought was to go to the SIMBAD database
http://simbad.u-strasbg.fr/simbad/
Turned out a bit harder than that as SIMBAD doesn't seem to easily resolve the Herschel designation.
I ended up going to the Washington Double Star catalog in SIMBAD, which includes a "discoverer" field and allows one to locate the Herschel numbers using the format HJ NNNN.
http://vizier.u-strasbg.fr/viz-bin/VizieR-3?-source=B/wds/wds&-out.max=50&-out.form=HTML%20Table&-out.add=_r&-out.add=_RAJ,_DEJ&-sort=_r&-oc.form=sexa
Thus h4104 = HJ 4104 = WDS J08291-4756AB = HIP 41616

Think I got that all OK.

On Android or IOS, the app to use is SkySafari.
https://skysafariastronomy.com/
Its collection lets you search by a decent range of stellar catalogue numbers, including HJ.
However, it doesn't do straight H numbers.

edit: error correction from misreading OP's question.
