Tried a few short exposures to keep the core under control and not have to go through layering. But you sacrifice a lot of detail outside ROI
Captured in Sydney under poor seeing conditions
30 x 15 sec subs
No darks
No flats
ISO 800
Canon 600D stock
6” f6 newt on HEQ5 mount
PHD2 guiding at 1.5 to 1.8 arc sec error

Martin,
the whole idea of the short exposures is to correctly expose the
core[and specifically the Trapezium], the rest of the image is irrelevant,
as the longer exposures take care of that. Muletopia has been working
on integrating the longs and the shorts, I think without layering; perhaps you could PM him regarding what method he used, I'm sure he wouldn't mind.

Thanks for that Raymo
Yes I realise that , I have Startools and it has a layering module which I have fiddled a bit with but need to spend more time on it to master it ( there is limited info about Startools layering just a short YouTube clip or 2 and a brief procedure in the user manual
I’m just happy I got some detail in the core showing the trap without blowing it out to much
Step by step ......
Always a learning curve
Cheers
