Angle eye piece for Saxon Finder scope

Hi all,



I took delivery of my Saxon 200/1200 dobsonian yesterday. I gave it a go last night to view the moon and it was great. My 4 year old daughter was blown away after looking at the moon so close. What I did find is that when the scope is looking straight up, searching in the finder scope is a real pain in the neck.


Are there any products about to aleviate this problem or is it just my bad?

I recommend a right angle corrected image finder (RACI) not just a right angle one otherwise your images will be back to front. RACI and straight through images will match any star chart with only rotation of the chart required.

It is also beneficial to have a Telrad or red dot finder (RDF) in combination with an RACI finder to allow for easier aiming.

You will be able to get a finder to fit your existing mounting. If you ever add a Telrad just use the double sided tape that comes on the base and adhere to the tube next to your finder; works well with no need for drilling.

The one you found at Bintel is exactly the same as mine except that mine
is badged Orion instead of Bintel, and it is black. SW, Orion, Bintel, finders
are all from the same factory, just as your Saxon is the same scope as the Skywatcher version, made by Synta.

Thanks mate but the Bintel one was a good price so I grabbed it. New scope, new parts. I'll let the kids play with the original scope as I doubt I would find someone that can use a scope like that.

I cop the same problem with the red dot finder with my Sky-Watcher 130p tabletop Dobsonian. Anything at less than about 25 degrees off vertical, I simply cannot bend my neck and body enough to manage to use the RDF to find.
To solve that, I'm looking at getting the Saxon 9x50 Finderscope with Bracket (90 degree) (https://www.saxon.com.au/accessories/accessories-finderscopes/saxon-9x50-finderscope-with-bracket-90.html) from Astro Anarchy (http://www.astroanarchy.com.au/Accessories/FinderScope_9x50_RACI.html).

JeniSkunk, as I told Fred, I have an as new Orion[ same as Saxon, Skywatcher, Bintel etc] 9x50 erect image which you can have for $75 posted.
the scope and bracket are both black. I can also include the dovetail base which screws onto the scope if yours is white and you would rather have the whole setup one colour.
