View Full Version here: : Low elevation Crab nebula

Normally I wouldn't bother with anything like the Crab nebula. The elevation from my observatory is never higher than about 30 degrees and it's right in the middle of the worst light pollution. A slightly gibbous moon wasn't going to help either. Anyway I still decided to have a go as an experiment. The result turned out better than expected so maybe I should venture north more often.
Cheers
Steve

Pretty nice crab considering its elevation. Shooting that low to the horizon is kinda asking for trouble!

You're not wrong Colin. I think I got lucky.

That turned out well for where it is. The Dumbbell next?

Thanks Mike
Thanks Greg. Possibly. I have done the Dumbbell before but the Crab was a first.
Thanks Marc. It was certainly much better than I expected.

The northern sky is also terra incognita for me...way too much sky glow.
Nice crab, almost as nice as the muddies down at the Sydney fish-market Steve :)

Thanks Peter. Given the way this turned out I'll probably be going after more northern objects now but the sky glow is a problem although not as bad as you would get in Sydney I guess.
Mmm - muddies. I'll be spending Christmas at my sister's place and she generally puts on a good seafood spread.

That's a great result for such a low target, Steve!

That's beautifully, compellingly processed, Steve. Not overdoing it. Looks like we're right there next to the explosion in 3D.

You’ve inspired me to give this a shot Steve even with its northerly declination. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Rodney. Glad to be of service.
Thanks M&T. It was actually easy to process. I think the data was pretty good.
