Reworked this image again to extract more data and detail
Stretched a bit more
Conservative wipe
HDR reveal core
Wavelet sharpened twice
Conservative Contrast
No deconvolution
Less colour
Conservative noise reduction
Used “Repair” for the first time to fix egg shaped stars and coma stars ( works really well , nice round stars)
Used Magic to expand and tighten Stars
Image looks a bit bland and colourless but heaps more stars now than before
I’m a fan of deep black space backgrounds with bright objects in foreground
Cheers

You'll find you'll extract even more data if you fix your histogram.

Sure. When you have finished stacking your subs and you have your final, at the moment you stretch that's when you have to be aware of your black point and your star profiles. So don't make your shot too dark as to clip the very faint stuff and don't make it too bright so you don't burn your stars. You do that by looking at the histogram while stretching, making sure you leave a bit of room on each side. As a result your colors will come back as well.

Marc
I just read the Startools forum and use manual
Startools does not require curve tweaking and histogram checking as the it automatically checks to make sure you do t clip the data when using Auto Develop , Develop, HDR and Contrast modules
Have a read up on this Astro processing software
I went into the program and could find anywhere to bring up a histogram etc

Hi Martin,
Apparently Startools failed to avoid black clipping in this case... unless you did some other processing afterwards? I have seen clipping occur as a result of converting to a different ICC colour profile and other manipulations but, as Marc suggested, it is usually a result of stretching gone wrong.
Cheers,
Rick.

Ha ok, I use startools as well but I don't do my stretching in there. Might shoot a PM to Ivo. He'll be able to advise.
Following his process list he hasn’t stretched after his wipe (no toilet humour comments please!)
I thought everyone knew after wiping you need to stretch.....then wash your hands (couldn’t resist sorry)
If you would like to send me a copy of the image I’ll give it a try and see what I can pull out. I’ll pm email address
