janssen isnt a crater but a walled plain. vlacq is an interesting crater with twin peaks inthe center. i picked it out cause i notice the shadow of the peak and how long it was.... i wonder how high they are?

details later if required

Good shot Ving. I realise that your question about mountain heights was idle speculation, but there's software called Jim's Lunar Terminator Visualization Tool which I'm told enables you to add heights of mountains, crater walls etc as well as Lat/Long, crater dimensions etc, to your images. Link:

Example of results here:

Definitely for the seriously obsessed, but just think - you could add a lot more lovely red squares and lines to your shots! Names, numbers, all sorts of things....

Great result Dave.. I thought the craters sounded familiar..

I imaged Janssen (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=14724) and Vlacq (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=14723) late last year (11th October).

A very interesting part of the moon.

actually the whole framed part on my image shows interesting stuff...

in teh top left there is a gigantic goudge. its facinating to look at but i have no idea what its called or what it is... VMA names some bordering craters but not the goudge its self. any ideas?

A very nice image Ving, great shadow effects being cast there.

thanks ric.

it occured to me that the central peak in vlacq is higher than the surrounding wall by a considerable amount if you go by shadow lengths.

I sometimes wish my parents had named me Vlacq. It is such an exotic, neat, wicked, smooth, sick and strong name, although perhaps too similar to that of Vlad the Impaler. :scared:

Nice moonage Ving, it's amazing how the forum membership has evolved since it started, particularly with regard to imaging.
