Tarantula

I took this a couple of weeks ago but couldn't figure out how to bring any life into it until now. It's only 15x2 minutes and heavily cropped to fit here.

Looks great...Did you say you were going to have another go at it?
I wanted to get it this trip but I cant complete Orion and Horse Head because of the clouds...and even when clear there is a lot of moisture in the air.

There's a lot of objects I want to get more time on Alex. So far I've been having a shot at everything to see what I get with my gear and location.

And now that Karl has pointed out M78 I want to try that tonight (looking clear atm). And there's the comet.

Too many things to do, not enough battery power (in me or the camera :) )

Yeah you'll have a go at M78 lol you'll need at least an hour minimum for it. I want more time on it but it's not looking good for the weekend coming. Due to work commitments I don't get to image through the week which sucks.

You're pic is telling me to hit it again, was looking at it on Saturday night thinking I should get more time on it, like you said so many objects not enough time.

Thanks Ryan. Here's a different crop that looks better I think - 1/3 LMC, 1/3 open space, Tarantula in the middle.

Nope, first one is better, Tony...

Second one yeah the Spider is centered but the composition is flat/boring. With the first, all of the Spider is there, and being to one side, a much more interesting and busy composition is achieved by including the neighbourhood around the Spider. Too many Spider pics focus on just it and ignore the neighbourhood which is just as fascinating. Your first pic makes your image of the Tarantula much more unique.

Composition is a skill unto itself. Many people focus just on one aspect but foget the context. That's composition. That's why I love my wee 4" f/5 refractor as much as my 17.5" dobbie - very different composition possibilities

Fair enough Alex, I appreciate your opinion. However the best I can do is meet in the middle and say they're both fantastic images :)

I guess there are three levels of images I like: widefield showing the objects place in space, a closeup showing detail like Brian's(Brisen) image, and something in between showing the local neighbourhood.
