I've been watching so many M42s grace these pages while I've been targeting other things. I thought I should take the opportunity when it was clear on Wednesday night to create my 2 cents worth.

302 x 22sec lights
30 darks
Celestron C5
Nexstar Alt-az mount
Canon 5d

Well done Ryan. Great image you got there.
Certainly got your 2 cents worth here.
There's heaps of image hidden in this pic especially with 110 mins od data. See if you can release the beast hidden within.
Cheers

Hi again Ryan,
I've been trying with Photoshop to get all the dark clouds of dust I know are there but when I push things with Photoshop it looks all washed out.
I've got a app on my tablet and phone called Snapseed and it's got a tool called "HDR scape"
Just a click on the button and it makes all the stuff you don't see visable and not too grainy.
To me it's like a magic "reveal all" button.
Hope you don't mind but I did it your pic and it reveals a heap of stuff in the background but doesn't wash it out.
I've been trying with Photoshop but just can't get the same results.
Hope you got more luck.
Cheers
Andy

Thank you all for your comments and input.

There is definatly more detail in it which I discovered while processing. I decided to go with a subtle image as is the case with the majority of my images. I'm assuming the quality of the capture is what stops me being able to extract more without ruining the quality of the final product. I do intend to run it through Pixinsight at some stage ( this was with Photoshop ).

I have come up with a very similar result as you did Andy with your app but I backed out of it because I didn't like the texturing of the additional detail. Certainly not offended by others including yourself having a play with the image though. I'm hoping that's why we are on this site, to help each other discover what's possible. So thank you for taking the time to give it a crack :)
