Orion 8 inch finished

I started a new thread to bring some sort of conclusion to my current attempts with Orion and explain what I may have missed earlier.

Equipment. F5 8 inch GSO with coma corrector ZWO 1600 cooled mono LRBG stacked 630 lum, 50 of each RBG all 30 seconds Gain 200 no darks or lights HEQ5 unguided polar aligned with Polemaster Data gathered half and half approx. between Sydney and Tabulam.

Stacked in Deep Sky Stacker, Processed in Star Tool, Photo Shop and Gimp.
I used various tricks to get the trap and core visable...including preparing a separate core and merging it in the the larger luminance stack and also darkening the region using the burn tool in PS and then brightening the trap stars as well as other s by using the dodge tool. Maybe a horror thing to do but I will do anything to get the trap in there:)

Spent all day and learnt a fair bit.
I am building a light box in Sydney and will eventualy take darks and flats and darks for the flats...and go for longer exposures when I get the mount working the way I expect it to.


I hope the colour is not to saturated but I do like it that way..probably I will adjust the image tomorrow when I look at what I have posted.

Mmmm still missing something ..maybe I went a little too far at the end.

Also the image although starting with a small fov needed to be cropped a great deal because of drift over the imaging session which I failed to correct in the case of the blue channel which produced a noticeable section at the bottom that had to come off.

Wow Alex this one's definitely on to put up on the wall.
All the pieces of the puzzle are coming together and you have produced this image. Its got all the elements and none too over the top.
Like you said about colour saturation but thats subjective and I personally like what you have done.
Ive had a bit off a go with layers, masks, and blur to tame the core but nothing like you have.
If we had eyes like insects its what we wouod see at the scope without filters and processing.

I only now woke up after a reasonable night out there.
Thanks everyone for the encouragement.
I am rather happy to have got anything given all the little problems.
One thing I keep doing is not labling files...so half way thru doing green I notice its labled red☺
Last night was strange...clear then all gone but as soon as I started to pack up clear again until total close out at 2am.
Last night 80mm on Orion (again☺) ...still unguided as I dont want to waste imaging time fixing stuff☺.
Looking at my image this morning I am a little disappointed as I can see so many things that were fixable.

That's a real winner, Alex. You've capture some great detail in the nebulosity and I've never seen one processed with colour like that before. The diffraction spikes on the bright star to the right make it a magical shot. :thumbsup:

I have decided to do them my way...artistic licience approach.

Anyways given the length of the electro magnitic spectrum who knows what colour really is..:shrug::D
