Ngc1365

NGC 1365, also known as the Great Barred Spiral Galaxy, is a barred spiral galaxy about 56 million light-years away in the constellation Fornax. In February 2013, observations using the NuSTAR satellite have found that the central supermassive black hole of NGC 1365, measured to be about 2 million solar masses in mass, is spinning at almost the speed of light.

Started this project on November 12, with weather and smoke delaying the finish. Was so hot last night I could only get down to -8C at times.

GSO 10" F4 Newtonian, with a deforked Meade LX90 ACF 8" F10 SCT for the core, ZWO ASI183mm Pro at mostly -10C, about 13.9 hours of LRGB.

Thanks Chris! Not as deep as others, I think the 183 is a bit slow, but I'm fairly happy with the result. Best I've taken of it anyway.

It’s nicely detailed Lee! :thumbsup: I imagine that the depth difference comes from image scale, the ASI183 has very small pixels! With the 8” F/10 you’re almost at planetary resolution for an 8” :)

Thanks Colin. Yes the 2.4um pixels are teensy. The FOV is so small in the 8" F10 I have trouble finding the object half the time! My alignment needs attention so I can find stuff easier.

I find the 2.4um pixels of the 183’s little brother, the 178, similarly need a good bit of light...light starved? But the results seem worth it!

Thanks Dunk. Not such a problem at F4 I suppose, but F10 with the SCT, I find myself binning to get around the noise.

Thanks Geoff! I was just thinking it would look better with the 8" SCT with the nice long 2000mm FL, but it would need 40+ hours to do it. That's about all I get all year lol.

Thanks Lee. Be interesting to see more images from the 183mc. It's been so cloudy here that LRGB is out of the question. But then it is the "wet season".
