Hello,
Last night/this morning it finally all came together. New DMK21AF04 Firewire camera, IEEE1394 PC Adapter Card, 300G external USB2 drive, some gaps between sets of clouds, good seeing and the opportunity to throw an all nighter.
Much of the evening/morning was spent idling whilst sets of clouds passed through but it was worth the wait. Here is an image of Theophilus and Cyrillus. The most obvious differences between my DMK and ToUcam, were very low noise and a screaming frame rate with no compression.
Cheers
Dennis

Excellent Dennis, that's the sort of stuff we've come to expect from you, and have missed from you (lately).
I was going to image Theophilus myself this morning but clouds prevented any hope of that.
Great first light, you must be pleased.

Thanks guys.
The DMK has been languishing in its box since it arrived early in January, mainly due to the unfavourable weather and a touch of laziness!
Having “moved up” to the DMK from the ToUcam, last night once again proved that “seeing is the king”. With good seeing, your equipment, whatever it may be, will operate to its full potential.
Jupiter may have to wait a while, as I’m still waiting on my True Technology colour filter wheel. I'll be content to look at the images from Mike, Bird, Paul, John, (George & Ringo?) and others in the meantime.
Cheers

Hello again, and thanks for all those nice words, they knock the edge off the tiredness I am feeling right now! :zzz2:
Here are another 3 images from the morning session; Posidonius, Rima Hyginus and some rough stuff in the North. I poked the C9.25 at Jupiter around 4:30am, but it was boiling so badly in the seeing, I didn’t even attempt any captures.
I like the DMK, although the "lowly" ToUcam "out performed" it in the same lunar regions in Feb 2006 when I experienced better seeing.

Thanks Mike
I made a bad move earlier this morning, a really bad move. I pointed my browser at Astromart and looked at Wes’ latest lunar images – wow! A sobering reality check!
He is cranking out some amazing images using his 18" Reflector and Infinity 2-1 camera.
Cheers

A great set of images Dennis, I really enjoyed the first one with the peaks in the middle of the crater and the shadows they were casting.
Cheers
