I imaged this galaxy a month ago, and a few days ago a type II supernova exploded in it. I managed to get about 6 hours all up on it over the last two nights through the 16" ASA astrograph. I was also able to pick it up in the 25" visually from suburbia, although it was pretty tough.
cheers,

Great effort. A lot more colour in the galaxy than I got.

Well done. Mmm, 6 hours with a 16". I've got no hope with an 8".

Thanks Marc, likewise I saw it on fb!
Thanks Rick
Cheers Mike and Trish!
Hi Steve, this scope can pull a lot of photons in pretty short order!
I've seen a few images of this with a 10", I don't think you'd have any trouble picking it up. You will need good seeing and the right image scale though.

Definitely a nice catch.
So let me try and visualise this.
M77 is about 47 million light years from earth. SN AT2018ivc is a star that has gone supernova in this galaxy and is hovering around a magnitude of 14 ish. Looking at how bright this stands out on the image, imagine how it would look if you were in a solar system next door. Would be amazing to observe (though would kind of muck up the dark sky observing for while too I guess).
