Garden Sheds

Went looking at Garden Sheds at Bunnings on the weekend.. unfortunately not for an observatory, but just to store my scope in (closer to where I need to observe/image from).

I was taken aback by the price! $400-$500 on average.. sometimes more.

I need something about 2m long x 1.5m deep.

Anyone got any other suggestions of places to look for more budget sheds?

If its to store your scope Mike, make it a roll-off roof shed! :thumbsup:
You can find bargains at places like Kmart and BigW for sheds I think, although I've usually found Bunnings to be pretty good with price on this sort of thing....

i was looking at garden sheds too at bunnings. I can't find anywhere cheaper. If anyone can shed some light where maybe possibly around the $250 mark?

Mike, they are all flimsy, get out your hammer, saw and nails and bang one together, it will look a million dollars and be infinitely stronger. If Striker can do it anyone can.:P

For a 2.4 x 1.8 x 2.1 shed, expect to pay around the $450 mark, extra for delivery and installation..
A flat or skillion roof may be slightly cheaper.
You could go timber but that will set you back 3 times the cost ot zincalume or colourbond.

I'll try k-mart of BigW as well. Before I can put up the shed i've got to eliminate 1 tree standing in the way (a shame, only 1) as well as prepare the area (concrete or pavers).

So I've got a few weeks before i'll be ready.

Mike dont underestimate the opportunity of the second hand market. One man's junk is another man's treasure. Place an add old garden sheds removed minimum fees charged that should do it. Ask the local real estate agents, sounds silly but so many people get rid of them when putting in a pool changing the garden or simply upgrading. The reason I went for a small roll away approach was simply the shed does not have to be very large at all. Mine is only 1.8 x 1.8 a size that at first would appear too small but for me the smaller the better as I have elected for a roll away shed not a roll off roof.

This isn't for an observatory, it's to store my scope + gear.. so it has to be fully enclosed, not rollaway or roll-off roof (unfortunately).

The second hand idea is a good one - i'll check ebay.. I don't know if I like the idea of having to take it apart at someone else's house, and I don't really have a car that can transport a large shed unless the panels fold up or something.

Sounds silly but dont think of why it can not be done simply see it sitting in the yard. Do that and it will be there in about 4 weeks. Trust me the Universe wants to deliver it so dont think of why it wont arrive.Think that it will and you open the door of opportunity.. it is that simple when you trust that approach. You find it I will get it transported. I will ask around today and see what we can find. You just worry about keping this site moving.

Check the trading post as well, they normally have trader ads as well as private sales.



The size your looking at would disassemble into panels and fit on a large hire trailer easy enough.
I'd certainly be looking at steel for value for money.

Check out your local community paper. Lots of stuff for sale in them. You won't have to travel too far to get it then.

I have feelers out and its council clean up around here..you should see the good stuff two perfectly good computer desks up the road, heaps of carpet in good nick only been changed for fashion I would say... but as tempting as they are I will wait for the shed should turn up soon I recon.
