I don't think I've ever gone to buy anything on Amazon US that they were willing to ship to Australia. And it waits until right at the end of checkout to bother telling you. Stopped looking at Amazon a long time ago.

As the saying goes, the proof of the pudding is in the eating. I decided to try out Amazon's rediscovered Australia policy. I went online to the US site and priced a new Kindle E-Reader only to be told - after the whole rigmarole right up to the checkout and payment stage - that they do not ship these items to Australia.

As it happens, I have used a US freight forwarding service before so I was able to buy the item I wanted with a US address and get around that problem in that way.

But there's no way Amazon were going to ship direct to Australia.

At the moment they will only sell amazon sourced products to Australia as they can charge gst on these items. They say when they work out how to charge gst for 3rd party sellers then they will re-open the whole site to oz.
